How do I fix car roof dents?

One of my friends thought it would be funny to jump onto the roof of my car and now I have two large dents (and a very apologetic friend). However, we're both fairly broke, and although they're offering me some money, I'm not sure it will be enough to get it fixed. How can I repair these dents outside of an auto body?

“Sounds like you’ve at least got a friend who’s never going to do that again, which is something! I’m happy to say that you do have several options to fix car roof dents and maintain the
retail value
of your car without spending money on a mechanic.
Try the following:
  • Park your car in the sun, as heat may pull out minor dents without any effort on your part.
  • Use dry ice in a bag and set it on the dent; the cold may also pull out the dent.
  • Use a rubber mallet to bang out the dents from the interior.
  • Harness the suction power of a plunger. (For humor, snap a couple pics of your friend plunging the roof of your car.)
If none of these work, you’re likely going to have to go to an auto body. However, your
comprehensive coverage
might cover the damages (after you pay the deductible).
If you don’t have comprehensive insurance, download the

app to get customized quotes from top providers in minutes—this way, you can make sure you’re getting the best possible deal on your policy. (And if you want to switch providers, we’ll help with that, too!) Adding comprehensive won’t help now, but it will help if any of your friends get rowdy again in the future.
Hopefully, your roof doesn’t get dented again, but if it does, it’s nice to know you’re covered.
Best of luck with the repairs—hopefully your friend can help out!”
