How do I fix a detached car window?
I tried to roll up my window today, and the glass didn’t move at all. I can still hear the car window motor running, so I think I need to reattach it to the mechanism. What should I do to fix a detached car window?

The detached window is a common occurrence, even in newer cars. So try not to worry! You can always let a professional handle it, but if you’re a bit of a DIYer, you can follow these steps to fix a detached window:
- Start by diagnosing the problem. Gently try to move the window. If it wiggles excessively, then it’s likely detached.
- From there, take off the door panel by removing the screws—make sure to remove the door handle before you take off the door.
- Carefully lift the door frame panel from the bottom and move it away from the door frame.
- Look inside the frame and locate the window and window raising mechanism.
- Push the glass back into the metal piece that raises the window. You may need to pop the glass into place, but take extra care not to shatter the window.
- Grease to the mechanism to ensure it operates properly.
- Reattach the door frame panel.
