How do I find the cheapest car insurance for me?

My family says they all pay $100 a month for insurance. They're all great drivers, but I have accidents and tickets on my record. I know I won't get that low of a rate. How do I find the cheapest insurance for me?

Don’t worry! Even with accidents and tickets on your record, there are ways to find the
cheapest car insurance
for you.
The easiest way to do this is by comparison shopping with multiple companies. You can request car insurance quotes yourself or by using an app like
Jerry
. Jerry collects quotes from top providers and delivers the best deals straight to you in minutes—for free.
Beyond comparison shopping, consider enrolling in a driver training or defensive driver course. Most insurance companies will offer a
discount for these courses
. You can also ask insurance companies whether you qualify for any other discounts.
Alternatively, ask if your family would consider adding you to their insurance policy. While their rate will increase, if you pay the difference, you’d still likely pay less than being on your own policy.
If you can’t find a cheaper rate now, as your tickets and violations age, your rate will decrease. Tickets and accidents stay on your record for three to five years. But if you maintain a
clean driving record
, you’ll see a rate decrease before that. Be sure to shop around every six months to ensure you’re getting the cheapest rate for you.
