How do I find out which car insurance I have?
I’m a safe driver and haven’t needed to look at my insurance in a while. I don’t remember any details about my policy! My friend recently got into an accident and warned me to check my insurance coverage. How can I find out which car insurance I have?

It would help if you can find
proof of insurance
, whether that’s an ID card or policy declaration page. Generally, people keep these somewhere safe in their car, including the:
- Glovebox
- Car manual
- Sun visor
Also, look in your wallet or wherever you keep important documents. Your insurance company may have also emailed you a copy of your paperwork.
If you can’t find it there, check with your local DMV. They may have a record of your current company.
Once you locate your documents, your ID card or declaration page will have all your policy information on it. With your policy details, you can reach out to your insurance company or check your online account to verify your coverage.
