I can only imagine how shocked you must have been when the other driver drove off! Unfortunately, some people don’t react well when negative situations occur. Since you were involved in a hit and run and need the other driver’s insurance information, you should contact the police first.
If you didn’t call the police at the scene, don’t worry. It’s not too late! The police should be able to find the driver based on their license plate number. They can also gather their
car insurance
information for you.Another option is checking with your state’s DMV. Insurance companies are required to report their policyholders’ coverage to the DMV. You typically can search through the DMV’s website for insurance coverage on a car.
If that doesn’t work, your insurance company may be able to help. Insurance companies have access to a variety of reports, including insurance information. If you give them the license plate number, they can contact the other driver’s insurance.
If you can’t find the other driver’s insurance, you may need to submit a claim to your own insurance company.
