How do I find out someone’s car insurance details?

I was hit by another car, and I’m pretty sure they gave me false insurance information. What are my options for finding someone else's car insurance information?

Finding out that someone gave you false
car insurance
information is frustrating. Luckily, you can contact the police, DMV, or your provider to find someone else’s insurance details.
You can ask the police for the other driver’s insurance information, and they’ll likely give it to you! But you’ll need to provide them with a good reason for the request and any information you have, such as **the other driver’s license plate number.
If you’d rather not deal with the police, you can request the other driver’s insurance information from the DMV. Like the police, they’ll require a verifiable reason for the request (like an accident report), and they could still deny your request.
Your final and most reliable option is to contact your provider. Even if the other driver gave you false information, they can run the driver’s license information through their system to find the driver’s provider. Remember, your provider is on your side. Just like you, they want the other driver’s insurance to pay for as much of the damage as possible.
That being said, the driver may simply not have insurance. In that case, you should file an
uninsured motorist
claim with your provider. To make sure you have uninsured motorist coverage, call your provider and ask.
