How do I find out my previous car insurance company?

How do I find out who I had car insurance with in the past? I know I had insurance previously, but I can't remember the name of the company. I've searched my email and still can't find a record of it. Is there any other way to find out?

“How do I find out my previous car insurance company?
If you need to find the name of your previous
car insurance company
, you could reach out to the DMV.
Almost every state has
minimum car insurance requirements
, so insurance companies must report insured parties’ information to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). As such, most states’ DMV will have a record of drivers’ previous insurers.
Some states even allow you to access your insurance information online. You can go to your DMV’s website to see. You’ll need your:
  • Driver’s license number
  • Vehicle identification number, or VIN
  • License plate number
You could also try reaching out to the Secretary of State’s Office, which keeps track of insurance information, too.
If that doesn’t work, try to pull a CLUE report on yourself. CLUE stands for Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange. Since it’s a report of your claim history, it will often provide prior insurance information, as well.
Lastly, you may be able to search your bank statements or financial records for insurance charges or payments. If nothing turns up at that point, you may have to list yourself as previously uninsured when purchasing new insurance.
