How do I find out if I’m insured on my car?
I haven’t driven since I left for college four years ago. I’ll need to start driving again in a few weeks and I have no idea if I’m insured. Is there any way to find out if I’m insured to drive my car?

Keeping track of all your documents and policy information can be tricky! Luckily, you can check the following places to see if you’re insured on your car:
- Your provider’s website should give you access to your policy information—including whether you still have coverage. If it’s your first time on the website, you may need to make an account.
- Financial documents like bank statements or credit card receipts can tell you whether you made any insurance payments in the past few years. If you haven’t, then your insurance coverage has likely lapsed.
- The glove compartment in your car is another good place to check forproof of insurance. Any insurance documents will likely have renewal or expiration dates, so you can find out whether you’re insured.
- New quotes from providers will also tell you if you’re insured. Most providers offer free quotes, and the documents you receive will include your current insurance status—such as whether or not you have a policy.
