How do I find out if a car is insured?

Yesterday, I bought a car that was recently repossessed. I haven’t picked it up yet, since I know I need insurance before I do. But I’m curious, how do I find out if the car is still insured?

Usually, when you buy a car that was repossessed, the previous driver will have canceled the auto insurance policy on it shortly after it was taken. And the company that handles the vehicle will have made certain that the car is no longer insured.
However, since you are the new owner of the vehicle, you should have no issues getting the information you want. You can simply reach out to the DMV and ask. You will likely have to provide your vehicle’s:
  • Make
  • Model
  • Year
  • Vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • Registration
The result will very likely be that the car is not insured. Either way, it will be necessary for you to get your own coverage for it. The best way to go about this is with the
