What’s the best way to find out about current car accidents in my area? There were a few recent accidents that caught me in traffic for a few hours. Since I can’t afford to waste that kind of time, I’m hoping there’s a way for me to find out about accidents before I hit the road.

Getting stuck in traffic can be frustrating—but sometimes it’s unavoidable. That being said, staying up-to-date on accidents can help you plan around them and avoid the big jams. Use one of these apps to find out about car accidents in your area:
- Beat the Traffic: This app alerts users when someone reports an accident and tells them where it happened. The alert gives you a location for the accident so you can plan your route accordingly.
- Infoblu Traffic: By showing users ideal routes, real-time accidents, and the locations of traffic cameras, Infoblu Traffic helps users plan short, safe routes to their destinations. While it won’t alert you to accidents themselves, it will integrate accidents into your path.
- Route Alert: If you don’t need help with navigation, you can use this app to set alerts for your specific route. All you need to do is inform it of your daily commutes, and Route Alert will alert you when an accident has blocked your path.
Alternatively, you could stay tuned into local radio and news channels—which usually cover real-time accident reports. While they won’t update your routes or customize the information to your needs, they’re reliable ways to keep up with what’s happening in your area.
