How do I find a car's insurance history?

I just bought a used Chevy Impala. The car looks great, but it has over 60,000 miles, and I am curious about its history. Is there a way to find out about my car's insurance history?

Sounds like you got a great deal on a used car. There are several ways you can check your car’s insurance history.
One of the easiest options is to check with the DMV. You can use your car’s vehicle identification number (VIN) to get a record of the car’s past insurers. Then, you can contact the providers to find out the car’s insurance history and claims information. Keep in mind that insurance companies will not give out any information that contains the personal details of a prior owner.
Next, you can purchase a vehicle history report. Although this doesn’t give you direct information about prior insurance, the report can tell you about accident history, repairs, mileage, and more. Turn to a service like AutoCheck or
Carfax
for a detailed report.
Perhaps the easiest and most direct method of finding a car’s insurance history is to simply ask the previous owner. While not all owners keep meticulous records of insurance information, some will have the information you require.
