How do I file a claim against someone's insurance?

What happens when you are in an accident that isn't your fault? For example, if someone were to hit my car, I want the claim to go under their insurance, not mine. Is there a way for me to file it against their insurance then?

“If you are involved in a car accident, you should still contact your
car insurance
company even if it isn’t your fault.
Insurance companies want to hear the details of the accident firsthand from their customer, which is actually to your benefit.
Avoiding submitting the claim
to your company means the other driver gets to tell their side of the story first, and it may be false information.
It is also your insurance provider’s job to fight for you, that is one of the things you pay them for! They will contact the other driver’s insurance company and work on getting claim payments sent to you on your behalf.
Filing the report with your company does not make you at fault. It just makes them aware of the situation.
Here are some of the questions your claim agent will ask you:
  • What date and time did the accident happen?
  • What were the weather conditions?
  • Describe what happened.
  • Name and policy information of the other driver.
  • Name and contact information for any witnesses.
If at any point you are unhappy with the way your company is handling the claim, keep that in mind when it is time to renew your policy. Quality claim service is essential and you can shop around for a new insurance carrier at any time.
