How do I figure out insurance on a car?

My aunt likes cars. She has several she doesn't drive frequently. She told me I borrow one while I visit. I want to make sure it’s insured, so how can I check if the car I want to borrow is insured?

“That’s very cool that you can borrow your aunt’s car. I applaud you for making sure your ducks are in a row before taking it for a spin.
Most states require
proof of insurance
be kept somewhere in the car, so check:
  • The glove compartment
  • Behind the sun visor
  • Any console boxes
  • In the car manual
When in doubt, ask your aunt; she may keep it in her wallet or with other important documents. These should be the fastest ways to find out if the car you want to drive is insured.
If you can’t find proof of insurance, you should mention to your aunt that one of her cars may be uninsured. She can check with the local DMV using the vehicle’s VIN, reaching out to her
car insurance
company, or checking with her state’s Department of Insurance.
