How do I fight a home insurance claim?
We had some severe weather pass through our county, but I was just informed my claim was denied because the damage isn’t severe enough. Is there any way I can fight this insurance claim denial myself?

While coverage does vary depending on location and policies, most standard
home insurance
policies will cover hail damage. To dispute your claim, you can get a second opinion and talk to your insurance company. Getting the opinion of a trusted contractor or two can help support your claim. Hopefully, you’ve also taken pictures of the hail damage. Present this new information to your insurance company and try again.
You know what your policy says and what it covers. If you’d like more clarification, ask your insurer to point out the specific places in your policy that have led them to come to their decision. Better yet, ask that they send you this in writing.
If they come back with a settlement that’s lower than expected and you’re still not happy, don’t be afraid to try and negotiate. Wishing you the best of luck as you work to get this sorted.
