How do I dispute a car loan on my credit report?

I was taking a look at my credit report and I noticed a car loan with a balance of $11,231. I've never had a car loan and I have no idea where this came from. How do I dispute it?

Time is of the essence if you notice a
car loan
that’s not yours appearing on your credit report. The longer you wait, the more potential damage you can do to your
credit score
.
To dispute the charge, file a claim with the credit bureau that you found the car loan on. This is typically TransUnion, Experian, or Equifax. You usually can do this online. However, you may want to call to file the dispute to get more information regarding the charge.
The good news is that most credit report disputes are investigated and solved within 30 days. If you notice that it’s taking longer than that, you may want to contact the credit bureau again to see if there’s anything you can do to facilitate a faster process. Hopefully, it’s a clerical error and not identity theft.
If you resolve the situation, you shouldn’t have any issues getting a car loan in the future. In speaking of your own car, did you know that most people overpay for their
car insurance
