How do I custom paint my engine?

I’m rebuilding the motor on my car and I’m considering painting the engine block while I’m at it. However, I’m not sure what steps to take first. How can I do a custom paint job on my engine?

In addition to increasing the aesthetic and customized appeal of your vehicle, putting a custom paint job on your engine can also protect it from rust and corrosion!
The first step in painting your engine will be to drain all the fluids from your engine block. To do this, simply remove your engine and turn the engine block on all sides to allow any liquids to drip out. If there are areas where the fluid won’t flow out, you can use compressed air to force the fluids from the engine.
Next, you’ll want to disassemble the engine block, clean the engine with water, and tape up any openings. If your engine has a lot of loose paint or rust, you may also want to sandblast it so that the paint adheres nicely on the surface.
Wipe down the engine block with paint thinner using a rag or paintbrush, and you’re all set to paint! Opt for a high-temperature paint and use even and smooth strokes to paint the engine block. Two coats should do the trick (Hint: Make sure the first coat is dry before moving on to the second coat!).
Once you’re pleased with the paint job and the paint has completely dried, you can put the engine block back together.
