How do I clear OBD1 codes in a Honda?
I just replaced an oxygen sensor in my 2003 Honda Accord EX. How do I clear the code that is triggering my check engine light without an OBD tool?

! It’s actually pretty easy to clear OBD1 codes without an OBD reader, as long as necessary repairs on the vehicle are complete. Here’s how:- Go for a drive. As simple as it sounds, going for a drive for at least 15 minutes at speeds above 30mph can give the onboard computer enough time to scan the system and clear any engine codes on its own.
- Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes. Cutting power to your vehicle will allow the ECU to reset, and once you reconnect power, it should clear anyOBD1 codesthat your Honda was presenting.
- Disconnect the ECU fuse. Like disconnecting the battery, pulling the fuse to your ECU will give the system a chance to reset and rescan for errors. Consult your owner’s manual for the fuse location in your vehicle.
Again, these solutions will only clear the OBD codes in your vehicle if you’ve repaired what was causing the issue. If you reset the codes and the light persists, be sure to take your car to a mechanic as there could be a much larger problem.
