How do I clean my car’s engine without water?

Yes! You can definitely clean your car’s engine without scrubbing, and even without water—the best way to do so is with a waterless engine cleaner. You can find engine degreaser formulas at most any autoparts store, or online.
Once you’ve found the one for you, follow these simple steps to clean your engine:
- Let your engine cool. Performing maintenance on a hot engine can be dangerous, so make sure your car isn’t running and allow it the chance to cool down for several hours before attempting to clean it.
- Cover any electrical components with plastic bags to protect them from damage.
- Apply your engine cleaner. Don’t be afraid to be thorough! Let your degreaser sit for at least a full minute before wiping it away.
- Use microfiber cloths to gently wipe your engine dry, being sure to get all of the degreaser.
Once you’ve dried your engine, you can apply a protectant if you so choose, or simply remove the plastic bags and be on your way!
