How do I choose my car insurance coverage?
I am buying my first-ever car this month! Very excited. I am not sure what type of insurance coverage is right for me, however. Any advice on choosing my car insurance coverage?

Figuring out car insurance can be very overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! Here are a few things to think about when you’re looking for your coverage.
Most states require drivers to have minimum liability insurance before they get behind the wheel. The minimum amount of coverage varies from state to state, so check the laws for your home state. Keep in mind, however, that is just the minimum and it doesn’t cover you or your car. You’ll likely want more insurance.
Some of the most common types of additional coverage include:
- Comprehensive coverage, which protects your car against covered perils outside of collisions or accidents, such as acts of God, vandalism, and theft
- Collision coverage, which pays for damage to your car when you’re at fault in an accident.
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage is also required in some states. This pays for damage to your vehicle or your medical bills if you’re in an accident with an uninsured driver or a driver without enough coverage
