How do I check on my car insurance policy?
How do you check what is covered by your car insurance? I am going to take out a loan to buy a new car this month. I know that new cars require certain car insurance coverage but I'm not sure what I currently have for the vehicle I own now. How can I tell?

“One way to check what’s covered by your insurance policy is to locate your insurance ID card.
Depending on your state, the information your ID card contains will vary. But even if coverage specifics are missing, you will be able to find some useful information, such as the policy number, which you can use to look up your policy details.
Once you have your policy number, visit your insurer’s website or download its app. Then, input your policy number and other personal details as prompted to set up an account online. From there, you can check on your policy details, make adjustments to your coverage, and even pay your bill.
Another option is to contact your insurance provider. They’ll ask you a few questions to verify your identity, then they can review your policy and explain which types of coverage you currently have and which you may need when purchasing a new vehicle.
If you’ve lost your insurance card and/or policy documents and would like a new copy, you can request paper or electronic documents while you have the agent on the line.
