Check with the company you think you had a car insurance policy through.: You can do this by logging into your account online (if you have one) or using their mobile app.
Look through your email: Most car insurance companies send documents electronically. So if you purchased a car insurance policy, the policy documents would likely be there.
Look through credit and bank statements: If you purchased an insurance policy, you had to pay for it somehow. That means there should be a record of the transaction in one of your financial documents.
Visit the DMV: Most states allow you to search your insurance information through their online database. Typically, you are required to provide your license plate number and VIN to do so.
Check with popular insurance providers: A last resort—and one that could take quite a bit of time—is to check with popular providers in your area to see if they have a policy in your name.
