How do I check if my car has a speeding ticket?

I got pulled over the other night going a couple miles over the speed limit, and I'm honestly not sure if I actually got a ticket or not. How do I check?

There are a few ways to check whether or not you got a ticket:
  • Ask the officer: If the officer gave you a slip of paper when they pulled you over, the easiest way to know is to simply ask the officer whether it is a warning or a ticket. You can also look at it later if you forget to ask at the moment, though.
  • Contact the DMV: You can go in person, give them a call, or log in online. Either way, you’ll need to provide your driver license number. You can also request your
    driving record
to check for any ticket history. This typically costs $2 to $25 depending on your state.
  • Visit your state’s Motor Vehicle Commission website: The fee here will be around $15.00, and you’ll have to enter your Social Security number.
