How do I change the starter in a 2000 Nissan Altima?
I have a 20+ year old car and it won’t start. I’m pretty sure the issue is a bad starter, but I don’t actually know how to change the starter. How do you change the starter in a 2000 Nissan Altima? Can I do it myself?

Yes! Changing out your starter is a pretty simple bit of maintenance. You shouldn’t have much trouble doing it yourself. To change the starter in your 2000
Nissan Altima
, here’s what you’ll need to do:- Purchase a new starter
- Locate the starter. It should be on the front of the engine
- Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal
- Remove the plastic cover from the starter motor harness
- Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the starter. You may have to remove the air cleaner and ducting in order to reach it
- Unbolt and remove the starter motor
- Insert the new starter motor and reinstall the bolts
- Plug the electrical connector into the back of the new starter motor
- Put the plastic cover back in place
- Carefully reconnect the negative battery terminal
Once the new starter is installed, give your
