How do I change the car key battery for my Honda?

Can you tell me how to change the car key battery for my Honda? The key hasn’t been working lately and I think I just need a new battery, but it feels silly to go all the way to the dealership just for that.

Here’s how to change the battery in your Honda
car key
:
  • Using a jeweler’s screwdriver, remove the screw holding your key together.
  • Pry apart the two halves of the key using a flathead screwdriver or a similarly shaped tool.
  • Look at your battery to see where the negative and positive ends sit in the battery casing. Then, carefully remove the dead battery from your key.
  • Place your new battery in the casing in the same position as the old battery.
  • Carefully press the two halves together until you hear a click, then reinsert the screw.
  • Test your new battery by pressing the LOCK button.
