How do I change the brake pads on a Ford Taurus?

I hear tons of screeching and a bit of grinding when I press the brakes in my car. I haven’t replaced the brake pads in a few years, so I’m fairly certain that’s the issue. What’s the best way to replace the brake pads on my Taurus?

If you’re hearing screeching and grinding when you hit the brakes, it may be time to
replace your brake pads
. At the very least, it’s time to check their condition.
To change the brake pads on a Ford Taurus, you’ll need a lift, a drill, and a new set of brake pads. Once you’ve assembled the supplies, follow these steps:
    1. Jack up the car or put it on a lift.
    1. Remove the tire.
    1. Take off the caliper bolts.
    1. Remove the caliper and caliper bracket.
    1. Slip off the old brake pads.
    1. Clean the area until it’s free of grease and dirt.
    1. Put your new brake pads into position.
    1. Reconnect the caliper and caliper bracket.
    1. Reattach the caliper and tire.
    1. Repeat on the other side.
Congratulations—you just changed your brake pads! If you don’t feel comfortable doing all this yourself, bring your car to a professional and have them handle it. Brake pad replacements will usually cost between $150 and $300—but that’s a small price to pay for well-functioning brakes.
