How do I change the brake light on a 1999 Toyota Camry?

The brake light just went out on my Camry. It seems like such a small thing and I don’t want to spend the time and money in the shop. Can I fix the brake light on my 1999 Toyota Camry at home? How?

You can totally fix your Camry’s brake light at home! With a little help from
Jerry
, you’ve got this.
The most common cause of a brake light going out is a faulty or burned-out bulb. Here’s how to change the brake light in a 1999
Toyota Camry
:
  • Look up the replacement part number for the brake light bulb and buy it
  • Open the trunk and find the tail light assembly on the affected side
  • Remove the cover from the tail light assembly
  • Reach in and unlock the socket by turning it counterclockwise
  • Pull the socket out
  • Remove the bulb
  • Using gloves to avoid damage and smudging, install the new bulb
  • Reinsert the socket, turn it clockwise, and replace the cover
That’s it! Now you should test your tail light.
