My key fob has been acting up lately and I think it’s because of the battery. How do I change it?

A malfunctioning key fob, or
remote keyless entry
can definitely be frustrating! Here’s what you need to do:
  • Look at your key fob. You should notice a seam where the two pieces of plastic meet.
  • Pry the two pieces apart. Once you have them apart, you’ll see the battery.
  • Pop this bad boy out, put it in your pocket, and head over to your nearest general or hardware store. They should have the exact battery you need to replace it!
In some cases you may have to go to a specialty battery store or search online to find the right battery for your key fob.
While insurance won’t cover a battery replacement for a key fob, you may want to think about protecting your car from theft in another way:
comprehensive coverage
. This covers you from theft and vandalism, giving you some peace of mind.
