How do I change the battery in a key fob on a Honda?
I have a 2019 Honda Passport EX. Recently, the key fob has been a bit unresponsive. I’m pretty sure it’s the battery. How can I change the remote battery on a Honda key?

In most cases, key fob batteries last about three years, so you’re right on the cusp of needing to replace the battery on your 2019

. The good news is that the process should only take you five minutes and cost about $2.Follow these instructions to change the battery in a key fob on a Honda:
- Look for a small tab on the back of the key fob (the side without the buttons), and push or pull it to release the key.
- Slide the spare key out of the key fob.
- Use the key to gently pry apart the key fob.
- Once you have the key fob apart, you should see a battery on one side.
- Use a pen to pry the battery out. It can be a bit stubborn and you don’t want to break the plastic tabs, so use caution.
- Replace the battery with a CR2032 battery from your local pharmacy or home improvement store. A high-quality battery will cost about $2.
- Repeat these steps in reverse order and your key fob should be like new.
