How do I change my name on a car loan?

I got married a couple weeks ago, and I'm in the process of changing my name to match my wife's on my different accounts. I've gotten all the big ones—but how do I change my name on a car loan?

Congratulations on your marriage; that’s a huge milestone! I’m happy to say that this is a relatively easy process—typically, you simply need to inform your lender in writing of your marriage and request that they change your name.
This can usually be done via fax, email, or old-fashioned snail mail. All you need to do is include the following with your request:
  • Your loan number
  • Your old name and your new name
  • Proof of the name change, including a marriage certificate or court documents
Since you’re already changing your name on the
car loan
, you may as well do the same for your car insurance, since it’s usually the same process! Just replace your loan number with your policy number.
You may also want to shop around for a new plan while you’re taking a glance at your car insurance policy—getting married can make you eligible for lower rates, so it’s always good to make sure you’re getting the best deal!
The easiest way to do this is with the
Jerry
app. We’ll get you personalized quotes from top-of-the-line insurers so that all you have to do is pick the plan that works best for you! (And once you’ve picked one, we’ll even help you switch!)
Congratulations again on the wedding—enjoy your married life!
