How do I change my car stereo speakers?

What's the best way to replace the speakers in my car? I want to put new ones in my car doors, but I don't want to pay an audio company to do it.

“To change your car’s stereo speakers, you’ll need to remove the speaker grill or side panel from the car door, replace the old speaker with the new speaker, then reassemble everything.
As should be expected, the process will vary depending on the model of your car. However, here are the basic steps:
  • Take off the speaker grill or side panel of your car door. This will likely require removing screws or friction fittings and may necessitate some prying.
  • Remove the old speaker while taking care not to damage the wiring harness.
  • Using the same factory wiring harness in the door, plug in your new speaker and mount it back in place.
  • Put the grill and/or door panel back on, and you’re done.
If you invested a lot in your new speakers, you may also want to add
sound system coverage
to your car insurance policy. Without sound system insurance, you will be on the hook for the repair or replacement costs if your sound system is stolen, vandalized, or damaged in an accident.
