How do I change my car insurance to a different state?

I'm planning to move to Oregon from California in two weeks. I'll be taking my car and will need to switch my car insurance over. How do I change it to a different state?

car insurance company
 before you go.
Although you’re temporarily covered by your insurance company when you move, you will need car insurance in
Oregon
 to register your vehicle there.
Additionally, not every company operates in every state. If you’re with a major company like Progressive or Allstate, it’s likely that you can change your coverage. However, a local or regional company may not cover you beyond California.
Rates between states also vary. Car insurance is state-regulated and every state has its own
minimum required coverage
, so rates can differ significantly when you move.
