Yes, you can, but before you change your provider mid-policy, confirm there are no fees for canceling mid-term. You can reach out to your current
car insurance company
or read your policy terms and conditions to find out.
Before canceling and changing your insurance, also make sure that your new car insurance is effective for the day you plan to cancel. Doing so prevents a
lapse of insurance
and ensures you’re not driving around uninsured.
Since you’re unhappy with your current company, be sure to shop around with multiple companies before making a decision. Request quotes from at least three different companies, and look at reviews. You’ll also want to check to make sure the coverage you’re looking for is available with your new company.
A great way to shop around is with the
Jerry
app. Jerry is a licensed insurance broker that lives in your pocket. all. Jerry pulls quotes from the top 50 companies in under a minute and delivers the best deals right to your phone for free.
After you decide what the new policy you want is, contact your old insurance company to let them know you’re canceling your policy. If you paid for your policy in full, you may be eligible for a refund as well. Too much work? Jerry can even take care of this for you.
