How do I cancel my current car insurance?

I’ve recently moved to a city with good public transit, and I’m planning to sell my car and take the train from now on. I’m getting everything set up with my car, but I’m not sure what to do about my insurance. How can I cancel my car insurance policy?

That’s a very eco-conscious choice!
Canceling your insurance
when selling your car is a pretty simple process, though you’ll want to make sure you do it right to avoid paying for unpaid premiums later on.
To cancel your policy, you’ll have to write, fax, or email a letter stating that you want to cancel your policy and the date of cancellation. Calling your insurance agent may be a quicker way to cancel your policy, though most insurance companies will still require a signed letter of cancellation. You can have your representative give you more information about their process or have them send you the required documentation.
Make sure you get a confirmation of cancellation from your insurer. You may be charged a small cancellation fee, but they should also refund or prorate the premium you have already paid towards your policy.
