How do I cancel a Toyota extended warranty?

I think I may have panicked when I bought my new Toyota and signed up for the extended warranty instead of just going with the basic. I don’t want to have to pay extra. How can I cancel the extended warranty?

If you cancel your
Toyota
extended warranty within 30 days you may be able to get a full refund and only have to pay a $50 processing fee. However, if it’s been longer than 30 days, canceling extended coverage is a bit more of a process.
Depending on your dealer’s policy and what state you live in, canceling Toyota’s extended warranty coverage will involve the following steps:
  • Gather all the documentation you have regarding your Toyota’s extended warranty coverage
  • Call the dealership and ask to speak to the finance manager about canceling your extended warranty. You may have to schedule an in-person appointment.
  • Your vehicle will have to be inspected by a mechanic to assess damages and mileage.
  • You will be refunded the amount based on the inspection.
  • Sign a cancellation form. Make sure you get a copy so you can confirm the date of cancellation if there are problems down the road.
  • Wait for the refund and follow up if you don’t receive it within a few weeks.
