in your name.The first step to buying a used car in Maryland is to gather the necessary paperwork. This includes:
- Certificate of Title, which needs to be filled out with both your and the seller’s information.
- Odometer statement, unless the car is over ten years old.
- Bill of Sale, which must be notarized if the car is less than seven years old.
Next, you’ll want to research the vehicle. This can help you verify that the vehicle hasn’t been stolen or involved in any accidents that the seller may not have disclosed.
A mechanical inspection is also required before you can register the vehicle in your name. You can visit a mechanic to make sure the vehicle will pass before you purchase if the seller is willing to coordinate this with you.
