How do I buy a car with no title?

I want to rebuild a car with my kids; I have twins who are about ready to drive. We have a junkyard nearby with all these old cars. I was talking to the guy who works there, and a lot of the cars don’t have titles. Titles are an essential part of owning a car, I know, but how do I buy a vehicle that has no title?

Rebuilding a car sounds like a fun project for you and your family!
One of the first things you should do is find the VIN. The VIN will let you double-check that the car hasn’t been stolen or that there aren’t problems related to the vehicle. The VIN can usually also help you get a replacement title at your nearest DMV.
Note that because cars at the junkyards are often totaled, you can’t drive them off the lot. Instead, you will have to tow the vehicle to your home and not drive it until you get to exchange the salvage title to a
rebuilt title
. The DMV will help you get your car road-ready again paper-wise. This might include inspections and tests the car will have to pass, in addition to the paperwork.
After that, you can insure the car and start driving it. The easiest way to insure a rebuilt car is to shop around with the
