How do I become a car insurance broker?

I heard car insurance agents make good money, but I don't think I want to be tied to one agency. How do I become a car insurance broker?

The steps to becoming a
car insurance broker
are typically the same as becoming a licensed agent.
The biggest difference is that an insurance agent represents a * single company* they’ve been appointed with while an insurance broker represents an insured with multiple companies.
When getting licensed to become an agent or broker, most states require that you take a pre-licensing course. The course is typically 20 to 40 hours and prepares you for the licensing exam.
Once you pass the course, you can register to take your licensing exam. If you pass and your license application is approved, you can find a job with a car insurance broker agency.
Since you’re looking to switch fields, you may also consider finding a job with a brokerage company first. Many
car insurance companies
will pay for you to become licensed when you start working with them.
