How do I beat a carpool lane ticket?

I was late for work the other day, so I decided I would hop in the HOV lane to bypass some traffic. Unfortunately, a cop saw me do it and gave me a citation. It’s my first offense. So, is there any way that I can beat a carpool lane ticket?

Beating a carpool lane ticket isn’t easy, but you may be able to get the charge lessened or dismissed by:
  • Contesting it in court
  • Hiring an attorney
  • Asking for a trial by declaration
The ticket should outline how you can contest the charge in court. If you want to hire a lawyer, they should do all the legwork for you.
The trial by declaration allows you to contest the ticket without appearing in court. You’re at the mercy of the judge and must abide by his or her ruling, even if it’s not in your favor.
A carpool lane ticket stays on your record as long as a speeding ticket, so getting it dismissed is the best option to help you save on car insurance.
