How do I apply for dollar a day car insurance?

I live in New Jersey and I've heard of dollar a day insurance. I'm having trouble affording my insurance, so this seems like a good option. How can I get it?

Most insurers in
New Jersey
offer dollar-a-day insurance, also known as the Special Automobile Insurance Policy (SAIP), for low-income drivers on federal Medicaid with hospitalization. If you’re eligible, reach out to your insurance company or call 1-800-652-2471 for help finding a provider that offers the policy.
While the cost is low at $365 a year, the SAIP offer a dangerously low level of coverage. It includes:
  • Emergency treatment after an accident
  • Treatment for serious brain and spinal cord injuries up to $250,000
  • $10,000 in death benefits
SAIP does not include liability coverage, collision coverage, comprehensive coverage, or outpatient treatment covered by Medicaid. If you cause an accident and you only have SAIP, you will be solely responsible for the other driver’s medical bills and vehicle repairs, as well as your own repairs and any medical bills not covered under your SAIP policy.
