I’m sorry your claim was denied—insurance companies can be tricky to work with! Here are some tips to appealing your denied claim.
You should brush up on your
homeowners insurance
policy before you do anything else—make sure you’re aware of what you’re covered for and owed. Then carefully check your claim and denial to see if there are any discrepancies or mistakes on your part.
If you’re still feeling stiffed, you can write a letter to your claims adjuster to appeal your denial. Clearly state your opinion and the evidence as to why you’re owed money. Any photos or documentation you have will help your case. Remember to remain polite—claims adjusters are people too!
If this doesn’t work, then file a complaint with your state’s insurance department. It may also be time to get a lawyer if you feel it’s worth the expense.
