How do I add someone to my car insurance?

My little brother just got his license, and since I'm his official guardian, I want to add him to my insurance policy. How can I add someone to my car insurance?

Congratulations to your brother! That’s a big milestone for him—and for you! Adding someone to your car insurance, I’m happy to say, is nowhere near as difficult as getting your license.
The first step is to contact your provider, and let them know you’re adding him to your policy. You’ll want to have the following information handy when you do:
  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Social Security Number
  • Occupation (you would probably put student)
  • How long they’ve had their license
  • Any recent traffic tickets or accidents
However, sometimes adding another person (especially a teenager) to a policy can end up being more expensive than just
switching policies
. If you want to examine all your options,

can be incredibly helpful—we’ll get you free quotes from different providers so you can choose the option that works best for you and your brother!
Congrats again, and have fun celebrating these milestones!
