How do I add my son to my car insurance policy with The General?

I have insurance with The General. My son just got his driver's license, and I want to add him to my policy. However, I've heard that adding younger drivers can be expensive, and I've never had to add a new driver to my policy before. How do I go about doing this?

“Congratulations to your son! I’m happy to say that adding him to your policy with
The General
is easy and painless: you can either go online or call 1-866-519-7422.
You’ll need to provide them with the following information:
  • Age
  • Name
  • Driver’s license number
  • Social Security number
  • Driving record
However, you heard right—your
car insurance
premium could go up exponentially if your son is below 25 years old. This age group is considered high risk by insurance companies, and so premiums tend to be pricier.
If you want to see if switching plans or providers would give you a better deal, try using
