“To add a new car to your
car insurance
policy, you’ll need to reach out to your insurance company. You can call to speak with an agent, or you may instead be able to add a car online through your provider’s website or mobile app.
Most companies require the following information to add a car:
  • Vehicle identification number, or VIN
  • Make and model
  • License plate number
  • Current policy number
Since you’re adding a new vehicle to your insurance, you should also consider the type of coverage you need. For example, if you currently only have
liability coverage
on your policy, you may need full coverage if you took out a loan to purchase the new car.
Either way, adding a new vehicle to your insurance will likely change your rate. This is because newer, more expensive cars cost more to insure.
If you decide you’re unhappy with the cost of adding your new car to your insurance policy, you can always shop around. Using an app like
Jerry
is a great way to find and compare insurance quotes so you can get the best deal on the best coverage.”
