How do I add a driver to my car insurance policy?

I just got married last week. My husband doesn't have a car, so we're going to share a vehicle for the time being. I've only ever had myself on a policy, so I don't really know where to start; how do I add my husband as a driver on my car insurance policy?

“Congratulations on the marriage! I’m happy to say that adding a driver to your current
car insurance
policy is as easy as making a phone call to your car insurance provider.
Your provider will likely ask for the following information about your husband:
  • Age
  • Name
  • Driver’s license number
  • Social Security number
  • Driving history
In general, you should add anyone in your household who can legally drive to your policy, but occasional drivers may get by with an exclusion and permissive-use policy. Contact your provider to learn more.
If your husband has a
clean driving record
, you may see little to no impact on your premiums.
However, sometimes adding a driver to an existing policy can cost more than getting a new one together. If you decide to shop around before re-committing to your current policy,
Jerry
can be a really helpful tool—we’ll get you over 50 customized quotes from different providers so that all you have to do is choose the plan that works best for you. And if you decide to switch, we’ll even help with the paperwork and phone calls involved, so you and your husband can focus on building your new life together.
Congratulations again!”
