“If you’d like to add your new car to your current
car insurance
policy, you’ll need to contact your car insurance company. You may also be able to add your new car through your online account or your company’s mobile app.
To add a car to your insurance policy, you’ll need the vehicle’s information. Specifically, your insurance company will need the vehicle’s identification number, or VIN. They may require the make and model of your vehicle and license plate number, too.
Depending on your current coverage, you may need to make adjustments to your policy for your new vehicle. For example, if your car doesn’t have full coverage, but your new vehicle is required to have both
comprehensive coverage
and
collision coverage
, you’ll be required to make that change.
And even if you don’t change your coverage on your policy, you can likely expect a rate change. Adding another vehicle often will trigger a price increase. Fortunately, many companies do offer multi-vehicle discounts.
If you’re unhappy with your new rate after adding your second vehicle, you can always shop around with other companies.
