How do electric car keys work?

I've noticed that most electric cars seem to be using a wireless entry system or some kind of modern entry method. How do electric car keys work?

That’s a great observation. Many
electric cars
have adopted a wireless key entry system that works by submitting a radio frequency command.
Imagine your hands are filled with grocery bags as you approach your car. Instead of searching and fumbling for your key, your vehicle can sense that you’re at your vehicle and open the door to save you the hassle. Automakers have opted for a keyless entry system for convenience and security.
Here’s how the keyless entry system works
Most Keyless entry systems send a radio signal from the fob to tell the car to lock and unlock. More modern systems use the same process for more features like locks, trunks, and windows.
Some key fobs send a radio frequency signal to the receiver in the car when the driver pushes a button from 15-45 feet away. While more advanced systems detect the location of the fob, which may be in your bag or pockets when you are 5 to 10 feet away to unlock your door.
