How do car accident settlements work?

I'm going through the accident claim process for the first time and I was just wondering, how do settlements work? Should I expect to have to sue someone?

Don’t worry, car settlements are pretty straightforward. Despite the many lawsuit commercials we are bombarded with on TV, most of the time, you’ll be able to settle directly with the insurance company. Most accidents don’t go to court or need a lawyer.
You usually only need a lawyer if one of the following situations have happened:
  • Accident involving wrongful death
  • Accident involving severe personal injury
  • Your claim has been wrongfully denied
  • You are not getting as much back for your physical damage or medical payments as you think is warranted
If you are in a situation where you need a lawyer, they will help you navigate the settlement process.
After a car accident, your insurance costs might go up. To avoid paying more than you have to, use the Jerry app. Jerry will find insurance quotes for you to help you find the best (and cheapest!) insurance for free.
