How can you open a Honda CR-V tailgate from the inside?

The back of my car is a little banged up right now and it's made it really hard to open from the outside. Can you open the trunk of a Honda CR-V from the inside?

Follow these steps to open a
Honda CR-V
tailgate from the inside:
  • Locate and press the trunk release button on the lower left driver’s side dash near the traction control button.
If this doesn’t work, or you find yourself in the back of your CR-V and need a quick exit:
  • Locate the plastic panel over the lock in the center of the tailgate.
  • Remove the panel to reveal the emergency tailgate release.
  • Pull the release handle to open the tailgate.
Make sure to return the lever back to the closed position after you’re done, as your trunk may not lock while the lever is in the open position.
Keep in mind: The process to open your CR-V tailgate from the inside can differ depending on the model year and trim level. Consult your owner’s manual if you have any issues.
