How can you make your car insurance cheaper?

I recently bought a new car, and the policy I have on my old car seemed to skyrocket. I’m really confused and pretty bummed out, especially since I’ve made sure to keep a really good driving record. What are some ways I can make my insurance cost less?

Buying a new vehicle should be an exciting and memorable experience, so I’m very sorry to hear that your car insurance costs are getting you down. Luckily, there are a few easy ways to make your car insurance cheaper.
Since you feel that you are now paying too much, the best option may be to find a new policy. To do this, you’ll want to get at least three
quotes
for other policies. To do this easily, check out the
Jerry
app—we’ll get you personalized quotes in seconds, so that all you have to do is pick the plan that works best for you. And once you pick one, we’ll help you switch!
If you’re not interested in leaving your policy, though, you may want to try changing your policy. This could mean increasing your
deductible
, which will lower your premium but increase the amount you’ll have to pay in the event of an accident, or switching to
minimal coverage
. With a little bit of research, you may also find that some insurance discounts apply to you:
  • If you live with someone who drives, you might consider getting on the same insurance policy, which could cut both of your costs by up to 20 percent.
  • Many companies offer up to 10 percent off if you’ve completed a
    defensive driving course
    in the last three years.
  • If you’re in school, see if your provider offers
    good student discounts
. Typically, you must have at least a B average to qualify.
  • If you don’t use your car very often, you may qualify for a low mileage usage discount if you drive less than 7,500 miles per year.
  • Military members and federal employees can qualify for discounts of up to 15 percent.
A great way to find out if these discounts are available to you is by visiting your insurance provider’s website and searching for them that way or by getting on the phone with an agent. Either way, you’re likely to see some sort of change!
Best of luck!
