car insurance
carriers require that you have a driver’s license to purchase insurance because you need a license to legally drive. However, there are many carriers that do offer policies to those with learner’s permits.
Progressive
does write policies for those with permits.
Since you have been borrowing your family’s car, you should also confirm you aren’t already added as an additional driver on the policy. If you aren’t, you can ask to be added onto their policy.
You should also confirm that the DMV isn’t just requiring proof the vehicle is insured. Since you are borrowing the vehicle, most insurance policies will cover you if there is an accident.”
